The Frankfurt Diary

The Frankfurt Diary

Hey everyone, I’m Jelena Pandrc from Serbia, an alumna of the 21st generation of the Internship Programme of German Business . I was doing my internship as part of Corporate Strategy and Development team at ProCredit Bank AG, in Frankfurt am Main,. I would love to share my personal story with you and hopefully inspire you to do the same!

After completing my bachelor’s studies and enrolling in a master’s Business Informatics program at the Faculty of Economics, University of Belgrade, I was eager for a change and began exploring opportunities of living abroad as a student. When I heard about the Zoran Djindjic Internship Programme of German Business, I knew I had to apply, even though stepping out of the comfort zone often comes with the fear of the unknown. I had doubts about how things would turn out and whether I would get the internship, but little did I know that I was embarking on a journey that would completely change my life and mindset.

At ProCredit Bank, everyone made me feel comfortable and welcomed, always willing to help and give me answers to whatever I needed. I worked closely with my team on multiple projects related to business analysis and market research alongside collaborating with IT teams on joint tasks. I highly appreciated the fact that I was engaged in all team meetings and other important gatherings. I really enjoyed German working culture and the trust they put in me. Also, not to forget that another scholarship holder from the Programme, Rosko, worked at the bank, which was very helpful, and with whom I have maintained a great friendship.

Of course, this Programme isn’t just about work and gaining professional experience. During my internship, stepping out of my comfort zone had less to do with work and more with living independently and trying new things. It also meant exploring new things—like Asian food, which I had no idea could taste so good! Even though I have always been athletic, the team building activities in our Midterm meeting, have challenged me even more.

Registering in the city, handling housework, traveling alone in a foreign country, and dealing with unexpected challenges along the way helped me grow, boosting my confidence and strengthening my character. It was reassuring to know I wasn’t alone on this journey—I felt the project’s team support, along with that of other scholarship holders, from start to finish.

Some of my most special memories are from our weekend trips. Spending days in cities like Hamburg, Munich (yes, I managed to visit Oktoberfest!), and Stuttgart with fellow scholarship holders not only helped us create lifelong friendships but also allowed us to learn more about ourselves. As my internship was coming to an end, I started to enjoy strolling through Frankfurt, even though I initially had prejudices based on stories I have heard.

I feel incredibly grateful to be an alumna of the Internship Programme of German Business, which has enriched me both professionally and personally. I highly encourage everyone to apply and become part of this exceptional community!
