The Timeless Investment: Why Education Always Pays Off

I’ve never seen myself writing a blog post story and sharing my experience publicly, but here we go.

Hi, I am David, a recent Computer Engineering graduate from the Faculty of ElectricalEngineering and Information Technologies (FEEIT) in Skopje and I am also an alumnus of the Internship Programme of German Business. I’ve heard many great stories from fellow university colleagues who have taken part in this Internship Programme and took the chance to start shaping their careers in one of the world’s leading economies – Germany. And I, as someone who is always looking for new challenges when it comes to professional development, couldn’t resist the chance and apply for an internship and have a first-hand experience myself.

I was fortunate to be given an opportunity as a scholarship holder of the 21st generation of scholarship holders of the Internship Programme of German Business  and to do my six month long internship as a Software Engineer & IoT at Oerlikon Digital Hub in Munich – a city which is a real gem when it comes to tech careers and learning from the best.

During my stay at Oerlikon, I had the chance to work on state-of-the-art technologies implemented in the industry and be surrounded with many experienced colleagues from whom I learned, discussed with and contributed to real-world projects. As the company is focused on digitalization and developing industry 4.0 solutions, I had a chance to work with cloud and Internet of Things –related topics and deliver solutions back. However, my thirst for expanding my knowledge and network didn’t stop at 5 p.m., and I took advantage of a few among many events happening for networking, sharing knowledge and hackathons, just to name a few of them. So, I went to an AWS conference and a hackathon held at the Technical University of Munich – how cool is it to be surrounded by like-minded people, right?

Since the beginning of the journey as part of the Internship Programme of German Business, I felt it is a right fit. The onboarding process and introductory and mid-term meetings showed me that I am part of a big community of professionals who always go the extra mile. Connecting with all the fellow scholarship holders during our stay in Germany enabled us to travel around, share and make amazing stories and memories, but also create lifelong connections.

Being given a chance to go abroad and experience international work culture, connect with professionals and scratch a bit of their iceberg knowledge and experience, I decided to join the amazing Regional Alumni Network and have been dedicating to the further development of my local alumni club Macedonia ever since I returned back home I am one of the local coordinators. ess

Last but not least, we all know that applying for a visa and all the paperwork is known to be a real pain, but with the support of the programme team, that feels like a piece of cake. Their support was present since day one and throughout our whole stay in Germany. This is an appreciation moment for all of them.

Participating in this Programme means participating in lifelong learning.

Wishing you all the best,

David Atanasoski
